# Read brand co-mentions

> Find brand pairs that appear together in measured statements.

Find brand pairs that appear together in measured statements.

**MCP tool:** `get_comention_network`. **Operation:** read. Uses the authorized connection; no project or content changes are made by this tool.

## Parameters

| Name | Type | Required | Default | Meaning and accepted values |
| - | - | - | - | - |
| `project_id` | string | Yes | `Required` | Project ID from list\_projects. Select the project in the intended workspace and environment. |
| `run_id` | string | Yes | `Required` | Run ID from list\_runs for this project. Use the exact returned value and check readiness before reading measurements. |
| `min_weight` | integer | No | `2` | Minimum number of shared mention statements needed to include a brand pair. |
| `top_n` | integer | No | `100` | Maximum co-mentioned brand pairs to return after applying the minimum shared-statement count. |
| `filters` | object\[] or null | No | `null` | Select measured answers with objects containing dimension and values. Use labels from list\_dimension\_options; inspect returned warnings for filters that were not applied. |
| `include_rates` | boolean | No | `true` | Request the optional per-brand co-mention rate results in addition to pair counts. Check brand\_rates\_note for availability. |
| `rate_top_n` | integer | No | `50` | Maximum brands selected for the optional brand\_rates results; separate from the pair limit top\_n. |

## Example call

Replace ID placeholders and example selections with values from your account. This is the `params` object for MCP `tools/call`.

```json theme={null}
{
  "name": "get_comention_network",
  "arguments": {
    "project_id": "PROJECT_ID",
    "run_id": "RUN_ID",
    "min_weight": 2,
    "top_n": 20,
    "include_rates": true
  }
}
```

## Read the response

Top-level `comentions` contains pairs with `brand`, `co_mentioned_with`, and `shared_mentions`; `url_evidence` can be present when stored. `scope` describes run or slice scope. With `include_rates`, `brand_rates` and `brand_rates_note` describe rates and availability. There is no `data` wrapper.

### Fields to use

These selected fields explain the example and the result to preserve. Field presence depends on the response; this is not a complete response schema.

| Field | Meaning and use |
| - | - |
| `comentions[].brand` | First brand in the co-mention pair. Preserve the endpoint’s spelling of comentions. |
| `comentions[].co_mentioned_with` | Other brand in the pair. |
| `comentions[].shared_mentions` | Statements containing both brands, not a response-coverage percentage. |
| `count` | Number of returned pairs in the full response. |
| `total_edges` | Available pair count reported by the endpoint. |
| `scope.level` | Whether the response describes the run or a selected slice. |

## Response example

Selected fields from an observed IQRush Dev response. Lists are shortened and project/run IDs are placeholders. Omitted fields remain available in the actual response.

```json theme={null}
{
  "comentions": [
    {
      "brand": "Anthelios",
      "co_mentioned_with": "La Roche-Posay",
      "shared_mentions": 113
    }
  ],
  "count": 20,
  "total_edges": 114,
  "scope": {
    "level": "run"
  }
}
```

Read the actual returned scope, counts, and interval levels before interpreting these fields.

## Important behavior

Co-mention counts are not independent brand coverage. Headline and pooled rates can differ. Missing source evidence is not proof that there were no sources. The tool name is spelled `get_comention_network`.

Check tool and payload errors before using the result. [Response handling](/developers/guides/09-responses-and-metrics) explains estimates and empty results; [errors and recovery](/developers/guides/13-errors) covers invalid requests and temporary failures.

HTTP equivalent: [Read brand co-mentions](/developers/http/http-get-comention-network). HTTP parameters and defaults can differ.
