# List AI traffic sources

> Read the reference list of tracked AI traffic sources.

Read the reference list of tracked AI traffic sources.

**MCP tool:** `get_ai_traffic_sources`. **Operation:** read. Uses the authorized connection; no project or content changes are made by this tool.

## Parameters

| Name | Type | Required | Default | Meaning and accepted values |
| - | - | - | - | - |
| `project_id` | string | Yes | `Required` | Project ID from list\_projects. Select the project in the intended workspace and environment. |
| `active_only` | boolean | No | `true` | True returns active entries from the AI-source reference; false includes inactive entries. This is a reference list, not traffic totals. |

## Example call

Replace ID placeholders and example selections with values from your account. This is the `params` object for MCP `tools/call`.

```json theme={null}
{
  "name": "get_ai_traffic_sources",
  "arguments": {
    "project_id": "PROJECT_ID",
    "active_only": true
  }
}
```

## Read the response

Returns reference source information, such as names and categories.

### Fields to use

These selected fields explain the example and the result to preserve. Field presence depends on the response; this is not a complete response schema.

| Field | Meaning and use |
| - | - |
| `sources` | AI-source reference entries, not measured traffic rows for this project. |
| `count` | Number of reference entries returned. Zero is not a traffic count. |

## Response example

Selected fields from an observed IQRush Dev response. Lists are shortened and project/run IDs are placeholders. Omitted fields remain available in the actual response.

```json theme={null}
{
  "project_id": "PROJECT_ID",
  "sources": [],
  "count": 0
}
```

The observed active-source list was empty. An empty reference list is not a count of the project’s traffic.

## Important behavior

This is a source reference list, not proof that the project received traffic from every listed source. Use it to choose a source filter.

Check tool and payload errors before using the result. [Response handling](/developers/guides/09-responses-and-metrics) explains estimates and empty results; [errors and recovery](/developers/guides/13-errors) covers invalid requests and temporary failures.

HTTP equivalent: [List AI traffic sources](/developers/http/http-get-ai-traffic-sources). HTTP parameters and defaults can differ.
